Hair loss is a highly common problem in Turkiye and worldwide, whose prevalence at an early age has increased in recent times. Although it is primarily associated with men, women can also offer from hair loss. The hair transplantation treatment offers a natural and permanent solution to thinning hair and receding hairline.
In a hair transplantation procedure, hair follicles extracted from the back of the head are transplanted in balding areas that need to be treated. When there isn’t enough hair left in the nape and temple areas of an individual, hair follicles can be taken from other regions of the body that contain hair, such as the arms or chest wall. Hair follicles extracted to be transplanted in bald sections of the scalp are called “hair grafts.” Depending on the extent of an individual's hair loss, the procedure may last between 6 and 8 hours and is normally performed under local anaesthesia. For this reason, all hair transplantation treatments provided by Megamed International are painless procedures.
Determining the best hair transplantation method is one of the most common concerns for those who want to undergo a hair transplantation. In this sense, the best method is the one that is the easiest, most comfortable, and at the same time, can yield efficient results. The following are the most preferred and common hair transplantation methods used in Turkey and worldwide:
DHI Technique
Sapphire FUE Technique
PRP Supported Hair Transplantation
Motorized and Manual Hair Transplantation
Gold FUE Hair Transplantation
Needle-Free Hair Transplantation
Stem Cell Hair Transplantation
Ice Graft Hair Transplantation
The DHI technique is one of the most recent hair transplantation techniques, and it is generally used together with the FUE technique. Hair follicles harvested with the FUE technique are transferred to the recipient area using the DHI technique. Unlike the FUE technique, the DHI technique does not involve opening channels in the balding area. Instead, the transfer procedure is carried out using a specialised tool known as an implanter pen. The DHI technique can be used not only for completely bald areas but also for areas with thinning hair, allowing for hair-thickening treatments while preserving the existing hair. For this reason, the DHI technique provides various advantages, especially in hair transplantation treatment for women.
The individual’s hair is thoroughly examined by the experts at the clinic. In this way, the structure and quality of the hair, the intensity of hair loss, and the quality of the hair follicles in the donor area from which the grafts will be taken are determined. Subsequently, the individual’s frontal hairline and the direction of hair growth are identified. This is done to achieve a natural appearance of the hair after the treatment is completed. After identifying the frontal hairline, areas of significant hair loss, and balding areas, are determined. Following that, the donor area where the hair follicles will be harvested is shaved and locally anaesthetised. Next, the hair harvesting process, which usually takes around 2 hours, begins. Hair harvesting is typically performed from the back of the head, known as the donor area, as it tends to have hair that is more resistant to shedding. It is crucial to preserve the harvested hair follicles in the appropriate environment to avoid any damage. For this reason. they are carefully stored in a particular solution until the hair transplantation takes place. Lastly, the harvested follicles are individually transferred to the recipient area where the hair transplantation will be performed using sapphire-tipped instruments.
Hair loss is a problem predominantly seen in men and is often attributed to genetic factors. However, it can also be seen in women, albeit usually for different reasons. Hair loss can occur due to genetic factors both in men and women, but it can also result from other reasons. Disproportionate and unconscious use of cosmetic products, hormonal disorders, postpartum vitamin and mineral deficiency or depletion, and excessive hairstyling are among the causes of hair loss in women. Contrary to the prevailing notion, hair transplantation is now a widely performed procedure in women as well. With hair transplantation treatment, both men and women can regain their thick and healthy hair. Hair transplantation procedures can be found intimidating by women, often due to the misconception that their hair will be completely shaved off during the treatment, like what happens with men. However, thanks to advanced technology, it is now possible to perform hair transplantation without the need for shaving. The Sapphire FUE and DHI techniques are generally used in hair transplantation treatments for women. The Sapphire FUE technique involves the use of a micromotor, which ensures that no scarring occurs in the area where hair follicles are harvested. The DHI, on the other hand, is a technique that can be applied without the need of shaving the hair. Although both techniques are suitable for women, DHI is more commonly preferred among women.
You may consider getting a hair transplantation treatment if you are experiencing hair loss or hair thinning and the following conditions apply to you:
Completion of physical development,
Absence of any physiological condition that would prevent hair transplantation,
Adequate number and good quality of hair follicles in the donor area (the area from which the hair follicles are harvested)
Availability of suitable vacant space in the recipient area (the area where harvested hair follicles will be transplanted.)

An hair transplantation procedure has three significant stages: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative. Although often overlooked, the preoperative stage is equally vital to the success of the procedure as the other two stages. Here are the guidelines to be followed during each of these stages:
Preoperative Stage:
- It is recommended to refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol for at least 3 days before the procedure, as they can have negative effects on blood circulation and impede scar healing.
- The use of Aspirin and other blood thinners should be discontinued at least 10 days prior to the procedure.
- Certain painkillers should be avoided for 3 days before the procedure.
- Any regular medication use should be reported to the hair transplantation expert.
- The use of vitamin B and E supplements should be ceased a week before the procedure, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
- Consuming highly spicy food should be avoided for two days prior to the procedure.
- Drinking herbal tea blends should be stopped a week before the procedure.
- It is essential to ensure that the treatment area does not have any sunburn by avoiding excessive sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before the procedure.
Intraoperative Stage:
- Depending on the chosen method, the hair transplantation expert will either trim or shave your hair before commencing the procedure.
- It is recommended to wash your scalp and take a shower on the morning of the hair transplantation procedure to reduce the risk of infection.
- It is advised to wear comfortable and casual clothing when coming to the clinic, as the procedure usually takes quite a while. In addition, it is important to avoid any contact with the treated area after the procedure. For this reason, it is recommended to wear clothing such as button-up shirts or zip-up tops that allow the patient to dress and undress comfortably without touching the head area.
- The treatment area is locally anaesthetised to ensure a completely painless procedure.
- Hair follicles to be transplanted are harvested from the numbed donor area.
- Harvested hair follicles are carefully transplanted into the recipient areas.
- İşlem tamamlandığında gerekli ağrı kesici, ilaç ve saç yıkama malzemeleri kullanımları hastaya anlatılır.
- The patient is provided with the instructions on the use of necessary painkillers, medications, and hair care products after the procedure is completed. At Megamed International, we value your health, which is why we offer our patients post-operative medications and hair care products as a complimentary gift.
Post-operative Stage:
- One of the most crucial things to be careful about after a hair transplantation procedure is to avoid any friction or rubbing of the head against any surface. To prevent this, we provide our patients with Megamed International neck pillows that they can use during sleep and travel as a gift.
- It takes approximately 7 days for the hair grafts to attach to the scalp after the hair transplantation procedure. Before proceeding to this stage, the patient is given detailed instructions on post- operative care, including guidance on how to sleep and how to protect their head.
- It is essential to take the prescribed post-operative medication after the procedure regularly and not miss any follow-up appointments.
- The first hair wash after the hair transplantation procedure is performed by our experts free of charge on the following day. It is important to note that only the solution provided for the purpose of hydration and moisturization should be applied to the treated area until the first wash.
- The first hair wash, along with wound care, is typically performed 24 or 48 hours after the procedure. After the first hair wash, the patient should continue washing their hair with the provided medical shampoo for a month.
-Strenuous physical activity and using pools and saunas, should be avoided for a month following the procedure.
- It is common to experience some swelling on the scalp shortly after the procedure. This is a normal occurrence and generally goes away within 3 to 5 days.
- Like in the pre-operative stage, it is recommended to discontinue the use of blood thinners such as Aspirin, and refrain from consuming alcohol and smoking for a week following the procedure.
- Experiencing temporary hair shedding, also known as “shock hair loss,” after the procedure is completely natural and should not be a cause for concern. This condition occurs due to the shedding of the existing hair strands remaining on the transplanted hair follicles within 1 to 3 months after the procedure, usually resolving within approximately 2 weeks. Following a period of shock hair loss, the patient’s new hair begins to grow within 1 to 2 months.
Hair transplantation is a highly safe procedure. It is extremely crucial for patients to adhere to and follow the instructions and necessary guidelines in the pre-operative and post-operative stages to ensure highly successful results. Overall, as a permanent treatment method, the hair transplantation procedure allows everyone to achieve the healthy and thick hair they have always dreamed of.
